Family member of an EU citizen

The EU Citizen Family Member Card is essential as it allows non-EU family members to legally reside and work in Spain and other European Union countries. It grants similar rights to those of EU citizens, facilitating access to the job market, healthcare, and free movement within the Schengen area. Additionally, it provides legal stability and makes family reunification easier under favorable conditions.

REQUIREMENTS:
  1. Valid and complete passport of the family member.
  2. Official documentation proving the family relationship.
  3. Unregistered partners must provide documentation proving they are in a stable relationship or, if applicable, a birth certificate of their common child.
  4. Children over 21 years old of the EU citizen or their spouse must prove they are financially dependent.
  5. ID card (DNI) or registration certificate of the EU citizen whom they are accompanying or joining.
Depending on the EU citizen’s status:
  • If employed (working for a company), they must provide:
    • Employment contract.
    • Social Security registration.
    • Notification of the contract through the Contrat@ platform.
  • If self-employed, they must provide:
    • Registration in the Census of Economic Activities.
    • Proof of business establishment in the Commercial Registry.
    • Social Security registration.
  • If not working in Spain, they must provide:
    • Documentation proving coverage by public or private health insurance.
    • Proof of sufficient financial resources for both the EU citizen and their family member.

A residence and work permit will be granted for a period of five years.
